Update Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 to Android 4.4.2 Official KitKat XXUDNE4 Firmware



Now we can finally update the Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 handset to OTA KitKat firmware as the XXUDNE4 software has been rolled out. The official OTA release has been made available in Germany and it will soon embrace all the Galaxy Note 10.1 devices. In case you haven’t received the OS until now, or if you want to manually flash the same, you can use this dedicated step by step guide in order to check how to install XXUDNE4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 model number N8000 using Odin.

As mentioned Samsung just rolled out the OTA XXUDNE4 Android 4.4.2 OS for the Note 10.1 in Germany, but since this is an over-the-air release, the firmware will arrive gradually, so not all the Note 10.1 users will receive the update at the same time. Also, the same software will be made available gradually depending on each market, thus, if you are tired of waiting, a manual flashing procedure is more than recommended for you. Of course, by using a manual update method you will install the same firmware as the OTA one therefore you will not deal with a custom ROM but with the stock XXUDNE4 OS.
But, before deciding in installing the firmware on your tablet manually, check for the OTA notification – just go towards “menu – settings – about phone – software version”. If you notice that the XXUDNE4 can be downloaded, before doing anything else ensure that you can use a WiFi connection as this is a major update. Do note that if your Note 10.1 is rooted or installed with a custom ROM, the OTA will not be there and you will have to manually flash the stock / official Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware.
This step by step guide is compatible with both rooted and locked devices, though the root access (if it has been previously gained) will be revoked once the steps from below are being completed. Now, when using Odin and when updating with an official Android OS, there shouldn’t be any kind of problems. But, on rare cases, after completing the installation procedure, your data might get corrupted or even wiped out. So, in order to avoid bad things from happening, before doing anything else, complete a backup operation – basically save everything from the internal storage memory by using backup and restore apps from Google Play (at least take care of your contacts, docs, text messages, market apps, EFS and internet settings).
Then, ensure that you can use a Windows powered computer and make sure that you can connect this computer to your Galaxy Note 10.1. And for making things right on your computer deactivate the security protection because tools like antivirus or antimalware can interfere with our work. Also, on your tablet go to “menu – settings – developer options” and enable the USB debugging option. Moreover, check the battery status on your device and if there is less than 50% power left, plug in the charger – you can brick your handset in case it gets turned off in the middle of the update operation.

How to Update Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 to Android 4.4.2 Official KitKat XXUDNE4 Firmware

  1. Download Odin, Samsung KIES and the KitKat XXUDNE4 update file (fromhere) on your computer.
  2. Then, unzip Odin and the update package.
  3. Install Samsung KIES and by using the same flash the Galaxy Note 10.1 drivers – skip this step if the drivers are already installed on your PC.
  4. Then, install Odin by following the on-screen prompts.
  5. Turn off your tablet and enter it in download mode: just press power, volume down and home buttons at the same time for a few seconds.
  6. Also, run Odin on your computer and then connect your devices by plugging in the USB cord.
  7. On Odin, once the connection is established, the “added” message should be displayed and the ID:COM field should be yellow or blue – if not, you have to close the program and unplug the USB cable; also reinstall the drivers on your computer and re-try the steps from above.
  8. Then, on Odin click on “PA”, pick the firmware file and without making any other changes click on “start”.
  9. In the end the “pass” message will be displayed and the ID:COM field will turn green; then you will be able to remove the USB cord and to reboot your Note 10.1.
Do note that after completing the update operation, your device might get stuck in a boot loop. For resolving this problem, you will have to enter your Android tablet in recovery mode and from there you need to select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”. In the end pick “reboot system now” and you are done.
Also, note that Odin might get stuck at some point. If that happens, don’t panic and just close the tool and disconnect your Note 10.1. Then, force restart your tablet and on your computer reinstall the drivers. Finally, try to re-apply the update process once more.
